Craig Patterson Launches Colorado History and Photography Book on... Colorado Monuments by Night has launched on crowdfunding site Kickstarter. With a buyin as low as $40, which includes bonus prints, Colorado Monuments by Night is the first book to combine Colorado history and nighttime photography, with the added bonus of including camera settings for every shot.

Colorado Monuments by Night is written with a different attitude than previous history books. With over a hundred monument and marker locations included, the history behind the markers is written in clear, concise, footnoted text, revealing the story behind the marker. Although the marker text is included in the image captions, what really happened, and what you won't discover from the marker, are the highlight of the book.

Simultaneously reverent and irreverent, the short sections on each marker are easily read and understood, eliminating the stuffiness of typical history books. Maps are provided, along with GPS coordinates and directions for finding every marker, making it easy for anyone to find them, whether they use electronic means or not.

Of Craig's work, Thomas J. "Dr. Colorado" Noel, Professor of History at the University of Colorado Denver and Colorado State Historian, says: "He is spot on with his understanding of the need to tell history as it truly is, without sugarcoating the things we've done in our quest for grandeur, and without forgetting the smallest of contributions by people who have been completely forgotten. Craig's unique focus on seeing the monuments and markers at night provides a greater sense of the history of this magnificent place. It also underscores how tenuous our hold is on our own history, often forgetting the markers even exist."

You can back the project at the Kickstarter page, starting at $40 for one book, including five special prints: four from the book, and one reproduction of the only surviving image taken by Solomon Nunes Carvalho. Classroom packages are also available.
