Veanne Cox, Ana Reeder, Adam Rothenberg and T. Ryder Smith will headline The Wooden Breeks, a new play by Glen Berger (Underneath the Lintel) that will be presented by MCC Theater at the Lucille Lortel Theatre from February 2nd through March 11th, 2006.

Louis Cancelmi (Vincent in Brixton), Ron Cephas Jones (Gem of the Ocean), Maria Dizzia, Jamie Dornan, and Stephen Mellor (Big River) will also be featured in the play, which is "
set in the fantastical, miserable hamlet of Brood," according to press notes. The play "conjures up a marvelously imaginative world peopled by a large cast of dreamers, schemers and lots of would-be lovers. Tormented by the memory of a beautiful young woman he adored and lost, and saddled with the bastard child she left behind as a painful reminder of their doomed romance, a village tinker-turned-poet tries to ease his pain by conjuring up a hilarious and extremely moving theatrical tale, a story made up for the young boy as they sit in front of the dying embers of their hearth." Tripp Cullman (Dog Sees God, Manic Flight Reaction) will helm The Wooden Breeks.

Veanne Cox received a Tony Award nomination for her performance in the Roundabout Theatre Company's revival of Company; other Broadway credits include Caroline, or Change, The Dinner Party and Smile. Off-Broadway credits include MCC's Last Easter, House and Garden, The Altruists, and most recently, A Mother, A Daughter and a Gun. Reeder won an Obie Award for her performance in Small Tragedy; other off-Broadway credits include Hedda Gabler, Humble Boy and The Time of the Cuckoo.

Rothenberg's off-Broadway credits include Danny and the Deep Blue Sea and Birdy. He also appeared in the Kennedy Center's production of A Streetcar Named Desire. Smith, currently appearing in Apparition, has also been seen off-Broadway in Measure for Measure. He was nominated for a Drama Desk Award for his performance in Berger's play Underneath the Lintel.
