Concert Artists Guild Announces 2018-19 New York Season

Concert Artists Guild's 2018-19 CAG Presents season features exciting young artists making their debuts alongside established CAG alumni musicians. This season, CAG is also excited to announce a new series, CAG Live! In Conversation, a series of career-focused panel discussions for musicians, livestreamed by The Violin Channel.

CAG's season opens with Words and Music, a concert on Tuesday, September 25 At the Kosciuszko Foundation, featuring 13 recently commissioned songs by American composers, set to the poetry of Lucy Miller Murray. The one-hour concert features songs by Michael Brown, Jeremy Gill, Jake Heggie, Paul Moravec, and Richard Wilson. Performers include CAG artists Sarah Wolfson, soprano; Mischa Bouvier, baritone; Yoonah Kim, clarinet; and David Shifrin, clarinet, joined by pianist Renate Rohlfing.

On Wednesday, September 26, CAG presents Cultivate Your X-Factor: Create Your Own Momentum, the first in a series of free livestreamed events focusing on career issues for musicians. Top artist managers Charlotte Lee (Primo Artists), Christina Baker (Opus 3 Artists), and Lee Prinz (Colbert Artists Management) discuss how young artists can develop their own unique narrative in this evolving industry.

CAG's Opening Night: Judi Flom Winners Concert takes place on Wednesday, October 17 at the Louis K. Meisel Gallery, presenting the winners of the 2018 Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition. This showcase concert introduces CAG's new winners to the public, following the Final Round auditions which take place at Merkin Hall on October 16 (livestreamed on The Violin Channel).

The Argus Quartet, Co-First Prize Winner of the 2017 CAG Competition, makes its Weill Recital Hall debut on Tuesday, November 13. The current Graduate Quartet in Residence at The Juilliard School, Argus is dedicated to reinvigorating the audience-performer relationship through innovative concerts and diverse programming. The program will include works by Haydn, Janá?ek, Juri Seo, and Christopher Theofanidis.

On Tuesday, February 12, CAG again welcomes back alumni artists for a CAG Encores! concert at Weill Recital Hall. Prevailing Winds features artists Imani Winds; Peter Kolkay, bassoon; Steven Lin, piano; Tom Gallant, oboe; and PUBLIQuartet performing a program of wind-centered works by Poulenc, Martin?, Russell Platt, and Valerie Coleman.

The Co-First Prize Winner of the 2017 CAG Competition, pianist Dominic Cheli, makes his Weill Recital Hall debut on Tuesday, March 12. Dominic, whose exciting 2018-19 season includes his concerto debut in Walt Disney Hall under the baton of Valery Gergiev, performs works by Liszt, Scriabin, and David Hertzberg (a world premiere co-commission by the BMI Foundation and CAG).

Violinist YooJin Jang, a Winner of the 2017 CAG Competition, makes her Weill Recital Hall debut on Tuesday, April 16. Also the First Prize Winner of the 2016 Sendai International Music Competition in Japan, YooJin performs works by Schubert, Sibelius, and Bartók with pianist Renana Gutman.
