Columbia Stages will present Gideon Lester's translation of Woyzeck by Georg Büchner, directed by Markie Splint.

Woyzeck, Büchner's ambitious play, was left fragmented and unfinished when the playwright died at age 24. In this modern classic a poor man tries to make sense out of an irrational world. The scenes are cinematic, the topic is raw, the language funny, the world absurd. Is it possible to live a virtuous life when man's moral compass is bent?

Marike Splint was born and raised in the Netherlands. She holds a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Amsterdam. Projects at Columbia include: No Drama Here Tonight, The Cherry Orchard, A Streetcar. Recently she assisted Robert Woodruff on Britannicus (American Repertory Theatre) and Aus Greidanus on The Good Woman of Sezuan (Toneelgroep de Appel, The Hague).
