Theatre and film veteran Cliff Osmond will star Willy Loman in the Arthur Miller classic Death of a Salesman for a limited engagement October 19 to December 3 at the Odyssey Theatre in LA. Opening night is Saturday, October 21.

The production will also star Anne Gee Byrd in the role of Linda and will be directed by Bob Collins, another film and television veteran.  Death of a Salesman will be produced by Coleen Kalbacher and Miss O Productions as a guest production at the Odyssey Theatre.

One of Hollywood's most durable character actors who appeared in almost 150 filmed roles over a 40 year career, and a respected and notable LA acting coach who has taught more than 20,000 actors during his two-decade teaching career," state press notes.  Osmond's film credits include four Billy Wilder films--The Fortune Cookie, Kiss Me, Stupid, The Front Page and Irma la Douce--while his many TV credits include "All in the Family," "The Twilight Zone," "The Untouchables" and "The Mod Squad."  His theatre credits include Waiting for Godot, A View from the Bridge, The Visit and Of Mice and Men.

Death of a Salesman "premiered on Broadway in 1949, and established its playwright Arthur Miller and its main character, Willy Loman as household names. It masterfully attacked the very foundations of the American Dream," according to press notes.

The play won the 1949 Tony Award and the 1949 New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Play, and the 1949 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It was the first play in American history to win all three awards. The play has been continuously produced around the world and has made Arthur Miller an internationally known playwright. Willy Loman's harrowing story is as timely now as ever before.

Set in 1949, the year of its premiere, Death of a Salesman combines kitchen sink realism and memory play as it explores a day in the life of road weary Everyman, salesman Willy Loman. As he returns home to Brooklyn from a failed business trip, he finds himself in a state of complete crisis. He has been taken off salary, is now on straight commission, and is sixty-one years old...As Willy becomes ever more plagued by daydreams and illusions, Death of a Salesman leads the audience to Willy's final desperate plunge into hope, tragedy and self-deception."
