Christie Vela to Guest Direct Shakespeare Dallas' Fall Production

"But, soft! methinks I do digress too much," as Shakespeare Dallas prepares for its fall Shakespeare in the Park performance. In its first-time production of Titus Andronicus, Shakespeare Dallas brings in guest director Christie Vela.

Having been deeply embedded in the Dallas artistic community for almost 25 years, Vela has appeared on stage at The Undermain Theater; Shakespeare Dallas; Dallas Children's Theater; Teatro Dallas; Cara Mia Theater; Amphibian Productions; Second Thought Theatre; Kitchen Dog Theater, where she is an artistic company member; and at the Dallas Theater Center where she was a member of the Hal and Diane Brierley Resident Acting Company for nine years.

She has spent much of her career as a teaching artist in the community ranging from private schools to incarceration and/or rehabilitation facilities for minors. Presently she serves as adjunct faculty at Booker T Washington High School for the Visual and Performance Arts.

As a director Vela's work has been seen at the Echo Theater for Night Mother; UNT for Marisol; The Drama Club for Wycked Wyld and Wyrd; Second Thought Theater for Bull and Straight White Men; Kitchen Dog Theater for Paper Flowers, Boom, The Turn of The Screw, Se Llama Christina and The Pillowman; and the Dallas Theater Center for A Christmas Carol (2015) and Gloria. The fall production of Titus Andronicus will serve as Vela's directorial debut for Shakespeare Dallas.

"Christie brings an illustrious and well-versed career in Dallas theater to her role as guest director for our fall production," said Raphael Parry, Executive and Artistic Director of Shakespeare Dallas. "As both a stage performer and director, Christie has deep and personal experience in what it takes to create a successful production, and we are very excited to bring her talents to Shakespeare Dallas' audiences."

Performances of Titus Andronicus will open September 20 - 24, at Samuell Grand Amphitheater, located at 1500 Tenison Parkway in Dallas, and will continue Wednesdays - Sundays, September 27 - 30. The production then moves to Addison Circle Park from October 5 - 15, also running Wednesdays - Sundays.
