Christian Tetzlaff Opens Lincoln Center's Mostly Mozart Festival

German violinist Christian Tetzlaff will perform in the opening concerts of Lincoln Center's Mostly Mozart Festival at Avery Fisher Hall on Tuesday, August 2 at 8:00 pm and Wednesday, August 3 at 8:00 pm. Led by conductor and Festival Music Director Louis Langrée, Mr. Tetzlaff will perform Mozart's Sinfonia concertante in E-flat major for violin and viola with French violist Antoine Tamestit, who will make his Mostly Mozart debut, and the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra. The all-Mozart program also includes the Overture to Le nozze de Figaro, Donna Anna's aria "Crudele?...Non mi dir, bell'idol mio" from Don Giovanni and the concert aria "Bella mia fiamma...Resta, o cara," both sung by soprano Susana Phillips, and Symphony No. 36 in C Major ("Linz").
The opening night concert on August 2 will be broadcast nationwide on PBS's Emmy award-winning Live from Lincoln Center (check local listings for date and time). Since its debut in 1976, Live From Lincoln Center has brought the best of the performing arts to millions across the country. Now in its 35th season, it is the only live performing arts telecast in the United States.

Mr. Tetzlaff has been a frequent guest artist at the Mostly Mozart Festival since his debut in 1994. Following his 2007 performance of Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 5, the Financial Times remarked that Mr. Tetzlaff "played with passion that never precluded precision, with poise that never precluded propulsion."

Mr. Tetzlaff recently completed a highly successful Perspectives series at Carnegie Hall, during which he exemplified his versatility as both a soloist and a chamber musician, performing 18 works-from classical to contemporary-in six concerts. During the 2011-12 season, Mr. Tetzlaff returns to New York to perform in recital with pianist Lars Vogt at Alice Tully Hall in October, and perform Mendelssohn and Schoenberg's Violin Concertos and Mozart's Adagio in E Major, K. 261 in a single concert with the MET Orchestra led by James Levine at Carnegie Hall in May 2012. The recital with Mr. Vogt is part of a seven city U.S. tour to Atlanta, Princeton, New York, Philadelphia, Dartmouth, Chapel Hill and Baltimore. This season Mr. Tetzlaff will also perform with the San Francisco, Saint Louis, and Cincinnati symphonies and the Minnesota Orchestra; and he will conduct and play with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra.

Mr. Tetzlaff's highly regarded recordings reflect the breadth of his musical interests and include solo works, chamber music, and concertos ranging from Haydn to Bartók. His recent recordings include Three Piano Trios with Leif Ove Andsnes and Tanja Tetzlaff for EMI/Virgin, Schoenberg's String Quartet No. 1 and Sibelius's Quartet with the Tetzlaff Quartet for AVI, and Szymanowski's Violin Concerto No. 1 with the Vienna Philharmonic led by Pierre Boulez for Deutsche Grammophon. Known for his performances of the complete Bach Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin, Mr. Tetzlaff has recorded the works twice for the Musical Heritage and Hänssler labels.
