CAROLINE, OR CHANGE, the new musical by playwright-librettist Tony Kushner and composer Jeanine Tesori, directed by George C. Wolfe, will play its final performance at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre on Sunday, August 29th at 3pm.  The production will have played 23 previews and 136 regular performances.

Following its critically acclaimed run at The Public Theater/New York Shakespeare Festival, CAROLINE, OR CHANGE opened on Sunday, May 2nd at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre (230 West 49th Street).  CAROLINE, OR CHANGE began previews on Monday, April 12th.  CAROLINE, OR CHANGE began previews at The Public Theater on Wednesday, October 29th, 2003 and it opened officially on Sunday, November 30th.  It played its final performance on Sunday, February 1st, 2004 for a total of 106 performances.

The CAROLINE, OR CHANGE original Broadway cast recording was released on June 29th by Hollywood Records.  The lavish 2-CD package features a total of 53 tracks and is produced by composer Jeanine Tesori, executive produced by Mitchell Leib, Glen Lajeski, and Billy Rosenfield and associate produced by Michael Rafter.

The Caroline Company is comprised of Carole Shorenstein Hays, HBO Films, Jujamcyn Theaters, Freddy DeMann, Scott Rudin, Hendel/Morten/Wiesenfeld, Fox Theatricals/Manocherian/Bergère, Roger Berlind, Clear Channel Entertainment, Joan Cullman, Greg Holland/Scott Nederlander, Margo Lion, Daryl Roth, and Zollo/Sine in association with The Public Theater.

The cast includes Tonya Pinkins, Reathel Bean, Harrison Chad, Tracy Nicole Chapman, David Costabile, Veanne Cox, Aisha de Haas, Marcus Carl Franklin, Marva Hicks, Capathia Jenkins, Larry Keith, Brandi Chavonne Massey, Alice Playten, Anika Noni Rose, Leon G. Thomas III, Chandra Wilson and Chuck Cooper.

CAROLINE, OR CHANGE takes place in Louisiana in 1963, just before President Kennedy's assassination and during the Civil Rights movement. Caroline is the black maid of a Southern family, made up of a father, his new wife and the man's young son. The son's birth mother has recently died, and the stepmother is trying to establish a relationship with the child, who already has a close connection with Caroline. The title has a double meaning, referring to the myriad social changes swirling around the family and a family argument surrounding the spare change perpetually found in the boy's pants pockets.

CAROLINE, OR CHANGE's creative staff includes Riccardo Hernández (Set Design), Paul Tazewell (Costume Design), Jules Fisher and Peggy Eisenhauer (Lighting Design), Jon Weston (Sound Design), Jeffrey Frank (Hair Design), Rick Bassett (Orchestrator), Joseph Joubert (Orchestrator), Buryl Red (Orchestrator), Kimberly Grigsby (Music Supervisor), John Miller (Music Coordinator), Linda Twine (Music Director and Conductor), Hope Clarke (Choreographer), Jordan Thaler & Heidi Griffiths (Casting), and Rick Steiger (Production Stage Manager).

CAROLINE, OR CHANGE's playing schedule through August 29th will be Tuesdays at 7pm, Wednesday - Saturday at 8pm, Wednesday and Saturday at 2pm, and Sunday at 3pm.
