Buran Theatre will celebrate their 10th anniversary season in 2017 with major productions across the company's satellite system of New York City, Albuquerque, and Los Angeles.

The 10th anniversary season begins with a revival of audience darling The House of Fitzcarraldo at The Orpheum Theatre in Albuquerque, NM from January 12-14, 2017 with the original cast, including Henry Bial, Brady Blevins, Adam R. Burnett, Casey Mraz, Hilary Kelman, Jud Knudsen and VAl Smith. HoF originally premiered in 2010 at the Unicorn Theatre in Kansas City and later toured throughout the states. The performance is a chaotic, queer fever dream re-imagining of the making of Werner Herzog's infamous art house film "Fitzcarraldo." Tickets are currently on sale for the three evening run.

The centerpiece of the 10th season will be the world premiere of T.B. SHEETS, written by Adam R. Burnett, directed by Ashley Tata, music and sound composed by Aaron Meicht and Daniel Baker, designed by Nicholas Kostner & Jeanette Yew, and choreographed by lisa nevada. Set in a tuberculosis sanatorium on a remote mountainside, a community of terminally ill mystics transcend to an order of living saints and build a spaceship to escape their physical ailments. This dizzying and iconoclastic new work, featuring a cast of ten, celebrates the power and beauty of the fragile body and the multiplicity and fluidity of identity. The production will be co-produced by Flint & Tinder, The Tank's flagship curated theatre program, and staged at the new Jeffrey and Paula Gural Theatre at the A.R.T/New York Theatres from May 11-27, 2017.

In tandem with the run of T.B. SHEETS, Buran Theatre will launch the release of Some Are Isthmuses, a new publication featuring 6 plays, 5 essays and collected writings from company members recognizing the first decade of the company. Contributors will include scholar Henry Bial, critic Mitch Montgomery, writer/performer Erin Mallon, composer Casey Mraz, and performer Lara Thomas Ducey, among others.

Additionally, in October 2017 Buran Theatre will present POSHLOST SAUDADES! in Los Angeles and in December 2017 a workshop showing in NYC of CartHorse Fellow Cara Scarmack's work-in-progress. The CartHorse Fellowship will be the core program of Buran Theatre in their second decade, providing resources and producing opportunities to pioneering artists with impossibly big theatrical concepts. Cara Scarmack's new work will be developed over the next year for a premiere a NYC premiere in 2018.

"This season is about reflection and forward-thinking," said artistic director Adam R. Burnett. "In our second decade we will dig deeper into the company's well of resources to provide truly equitable opportunities and send a signal to other non-profit performing arts organizations that it is possible to have a stage as colorful and unwieldy and imaginative as our world, while simultaneously respecting and taking care of others."

Buran Theatre is a NYC-based ensemble of disparate multidisciplinary and intergenerational artists who joyfully and anarchically reconfigure narrative, form, genre, gender and design to develop and present iconoclastic, surreal theatre productions. Led by artistic director Adam R. Burnett, the company is spread across a satellite system of communities include New York City, Minneapolis, Kansas City, Albuquerque and Los Angeles. Major past productions include The House of Fitzcarraldo, Meile be Akcento, Nightmares: A Demonstration of the Sublime,Magic Bullets and Mammoth. Their work has been presented in NYC at Ars Nova, The Brick, The Bushwick Starr, Chashama, Dixon Place, Exit Art, and Incubator Arts Project/Ontological-Hysterics Theater. Nationally and internationally they have been presented at Highways Performance Space in Santa Monica, CA; Tricklock Company's Revolutions International Theatre Festival in Albuquerque, NM; the Marigny Opera House in New Orleans, LA; the Unicorn Theater in Kansas City, MO; and the Vilnius Chamber Theater in Vilnius, Lithuania, among others.
