As Broadway remains dark, BroadwayWorld wants to make sure that you still get your theatre fix each and every day until it's back. In our daily series Broadway Rewind, we're uncovering footage from the depths of our archives so that you can relive magical moments of Broadway past!

Today we rewind to 2013, for the Encores! Off-Center production of Violet. Violet, based on the short story "The Ugliest Pilgrim" by Doris Betts, has music by Jeanine Tesori and book and lyrics by Brian Crawley. The show follows a young woman who embarks on a religious pilgrimage in hopes of being healed of her disfiguring scar and features a score filled with gospel, country, rock, rhythm and blues. Violet opened Off-Broadway for a limited run at Playwrights Horizons on March 11, 1997.

The Encores! production, which moved to Broadway with Sutton Foster, Emerson Steele and Joshua Henry the following year, starred Van Hughes, Keala Settle, Christopher Sieber, and Chris Sullivan. It was directed by Leigh Silverman.
