Broadway Impact, a grassroots coalition of the theatre community and its fans mobilizing in support of marriage equality, is launching a new venture to enlist the support of local theatres across the country to pursue its efforts in pushing the equality movement in 2010 and beyond.

"Up until now we've taken refuge in New York's open minded communities, assuming that marriage equality is inevitable in the empire state.  The New York State Senate has shown us that equality can't be taken for granted anywhere.  The quest for civil rights has to be fought in every corner of our nation.  The time has come for Broadway Impact to enlist the support of hometown community theatres from Seattle, WA to Blaine, MO. So now we ask that you send this message to your hometown", reads a statement on the Broadway Impact website.

As part of the campaign, Broadway Impact is asking the public to connect local theatres in their area to the organization in the hopes of galvanizing a broader movement in support of marriage equality.

Founded by Gavin Creel, Rory O'Malley and Jenny Kanelos, Broadway Impact is a community of actors, directors, stage managers, fans, producers - pretty much anyone who has ever seen, been in or worked on a Broadway show - united by the simple belief that anyone who wants to should be able to get married.

Excited by the election of President Obama and angered by the passage of Prop 8, a few friends came together with a hope to educate and inspire our community into action towards equality.
Every year, through Broadway Cares/ Equity Fights AIDS and other amazing organizations, the theatrical community raises millions of dollars for charity. They believe that now there is a fight that has come to our stage and it is one that cannot be ignored.

Broadway Impact exists to be a place for anyone and everyone who loves theatre, is passionate about equality, and wants to know how to sing out and make their voice heard.
