Bertie Carvel will take on the role of falsely accused Leo Frank in Jason Robert Brown's Tony Award-winning 1998 musical, Parade, which will make its London premiere this September at the Donmar Warehouse.  The production will begin performances on September 14th, 2007, open on September 24th and run through November 24th.

According to Whatsonstage.com, Carvel will join the previously announced Lara Pulver - who last appeared in the UK premiere oF Brown's The Last 5 Years at The Menier Chocolate Factory - as Lucille Frank.

Parade, which won 1999 Tony Awards for Best Book and Best Original Musical Score, is based on the "seminal trial of Leo Frank in 1913 Atlanta, Georgia. The murder of a young girl ignites dormant prejudice as a media frenzy incites a community to revenge," according to Whatsonstage.com.  Parade also won the Drama Desk and New York Critic's Circle Award for Best Musical.

Rob Ashford (Guys and Dolls, Evita) makes his directorial debut with Parade.  The production features a book by Alfred Uhry (Driving Miss Daisy, LoveMusik), and music and lyrics by Brown (The Last Five Years, Songs for a New World, 13).  It will be designed by Christopher Oram, with lighting by Neil Austin and musical direction by Thomas Murray.

Carvel has appeared at The National Theatre in The Man of Mode, The Life of Galileo and Coram Boy, as well as on TV in "Doctor Who" and "Agatha Christie: A Life in Pictures," among others.

Full casting will be announced soon.
