Battery Dance Company to Premiere THE DURGA PROJECT at Schimmel Center
The Company celebrates its 40th anniversary with a world premiere, The Durga Project, directed by its founder, Jonathan Hollander, and a diverse array of performances at home and abroad.
Its New York season takes place on May 11th and May 12th at 7 pm at Schimmel Center for the Arts. General Admission tickets at $25 are available at the box office. Gala tickets for the May 12th performance and reception are available through the company - email@example.com.
The Durga Project weaves together the movement vocabularies and aesthetics of the U.S. and India into a choreographic fantasy of 30 minutes with Indian Guest artist Unnath H.R. and a commissioned score by Frank Carlberg.
The international program will be complemented by works commissioned by European and African choreographers-"Inter/Ago," (2015) by Tadej Brdnik, recently retired Principal of the Martha Graham Dance Company and a member of Battery Dance since 1998; and "Observatory," (2014) by Theo Ndindwa, of South Africa's iKapa Dance Theatre, and performed previously by Battery Dance in South America, Europe, Asia and at the first Cape Town International Dance Festival.
