Lincoln Center Theater (under the direction of Andre Bishop, Artistic Director, and Bernard Gersten, Executive Producer) has announced that Bartlett Sher has been named Resident Director of the Theater. As Resident Director Mr. Sher will have an office at LCT, consult with Artistic Director Andre Bishop on artistic matters and direct one LCT production each year.
Bartlett Sher, who will continue in his role as Artistic Director of Seattle’s Intiman Theatre, won the Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for his direction of Lincoln Center Theater’s current hit production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s South Pacific at the Vivian Beaumont Theater. He was also nominated for Tony Awards for his direction of LCT’s award winning productions of Clifford Odets’ Awake & Sing! and the Craig Lucas-Adam Guettel musical The Light in the Piazza. His other New York credits include the Metropolitan Opera’s production if IL Barbiere di Siviglia, the opera Mourning Becomes Electra at the NY City Opera (which he originally directed for the Seattle Opera) and the Theatre for A New Audience productions of Cymbeline (2001 Callaway Award - Best Director), which was also the first American Shakespeare presented at the Royal Shakespeare Company, Waste and Don Juan. Upcoming productions include Craig Lucas’ Prayer for My Enemy later this fall at Playwrights Horizons, The Tales of Hoffman next season at the MET in New York and Othello at the Intiman Theatre in Seattle.Photo Credit Walter McBride/Retna Ltd.
