This week we are excited to share a song by the talented writing team Joshua Salzman and Ryan Cunningham. Here is the brilliant Lauren Kennedy singing "Don't Say Another Word" at our CEC concert at the Canal Room.

Ryan and Josh let us know about how Lauren was their inspiration for writing this song:

"When Lauren Kennedy announced that she was doing her album "Here And Now" on PS Classics, we knew that we wanted to find some way to be involved. So we pitched our song "Just Not Now" and we also decided to write a new song especially for Lauren called "Don't Say Another Word". Ultimately, "Just Not Now" was the song that landed on the album--but we ended up with this other song that we loved. We put it into our show "Next Thing You Know", but were always sad not to get a chance to hear Lauren perform it. Then we were asked to perform with Cutting Edge Composers, and we thought it might be the opportunity to finally hear Lauren perform the song. Lauren agreed to sing it for us--and as we expected, she killed it.

Joshua Salzman and Ryan Cunningham are Jonathan Larson Award winners as well as Drama Desk and MAC Award-nominated writers. Their Off-Broadway musical,I Love You Because, has been produced all over the world in five languages. Their new musical, Next Thing You Know, has been produced at CAP 21 in New York, across America and in Europe. Their song Just Not Now was featured on Lauren Kennedy's solo album Here and Now. Ryan and Joshua are graduates of the NYU graduate musical theatre writing program and are both members of ASCAP and the Dramatist Guild.
