This pilot program is an initiative by BAX/Brooklyn Arts Exchange, funded in part by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, that has been developed to address some of the needs of choreographers who are trying to meet the challenges of being an artist and a parent to newborn through pre-school age (0-4) children. As an organization that has entered its third decade, BAX is intimately familiar with the joys and the difficulties of raising a family and creating and producing work.
BAX will select a total of two choreographers who are residents of any of the five boroughs in NYC, and who are parents of newborn through pre-school age (0-4) children. Artists will be awarded 40 hours of rehearsal space in addition to a $300 childcare stipend. Awarded rehearsal space is to be used April 1-June 30, 2012, Monday - Friday between the hours of 9am -3pm. Space will be used in any of our four rehearsal spaces located in the BAX BUILDING at 421 Fifth Avenue, Park Slope, Brooklyn. http://bax.org/rental
Participants will be asked to work closely with BAX staff to document the effectiveness of the grant, keep a diary and provide feedback to the program.
BAX has a Playspace program for ages 1-4 on Mondays and Fridays from 9:30 - 11:30am that will also be offered free of charge (childcare not provided). http://bax.org/youth/programming/baxbambinos
