August Strindberg Rep Announces Postponement For CREDITORS

August Strindberg Rep's production of Strindberg's "Creditors," which was scheduled for May 16 to June 2, 2018 at Gene Frankel Theatre, 24 Bond Street, has been postponed until the summer. The reason for the postponement is to enable an extension for a sister company at Gene Frankel Theatre. Wheelhouse Theatre's production of "Happy Birthday Wanda June" is expanding into a longer run at the venue.

The new dates and venue for "Creditors" have not been set yet. There will be a subsequent announcement when new production plans solidify.

"Creditors," a drama of conjugal dependency and psychic murder, is a jewel of Strindberg's naturalist period. The production will debut a new translation by Robert Greer, who directs. During an afternoon in a lounge at a seaside resort, a revenge is played out. A credulous artist has his mind poisoned against his wife by her former husband. This masterpiece from Strindberg's naturalist period is rarely excelled in its unity of construction, dramatic tension and acute psychological analysis, but it is far less anthologized than "The Father" or "Miss Julie."
