Ars Nova presents, as part of the Out Loud series, a FREE reading of SOCIAL SERVICES by Victor Kaufold. Directed by Sam Gold, SOCIAL SERVICES will feature Starla Benford, Kristen Connolly, Adapero Oduye, Allison Pill, Gio Perez and Jasmin Tavarez.

SOCIAL SERVICES
Emma, a young person of privilege, finds work at an urban community center. She hopes the new job will give her life direction. Then the sex scandal happens. In its bewildering, complicated aftermath, Emma reaches for answers to questions way out of her depth.

Victor Kaufold has had productions at the Hudson Theatre (Los Angeles), the Avery Theatre (Annandale), and the Yale Cabaret. His full-length plays include The Why, Tethered, The Special Interest Case of Special Agent Esteban Martinez, Muke the Inquisitive, The Death of Milton Hubbell, and Bridesburg, in addition to Social Services. The Why was produced by the Blank Theatre in Los Angeles in 2000 and was nominated for an Ovation award as best new play. Now published by Playscripts, Inc., it has enjoyed numerous performances and readings around and outside the US. Victor currently teaches English at Borough of Manhattan Community College and holds an MFA from the Yale School of Drama.

Sam Gold's directing credits include Nick Jones and Raja Azar's Jollyship the Whiz-Bang at Ars Nova. Among his other recent credits: Sam Forman's The Rise and Fall of Annie Hall (Stage 13), Noah Haidle's Rag and Bone (Rattlestick), Betty Shamieh's The Black Eyed (NY Theater Workshop), Sam Mark's The Joke (Studio Dante). Beau Willimon's Farragut North and War Story and Sam Hunter's I Am Montana (Juilliard).

SOCIAL SERVICES will be read on Monday, December 15th at 7 pm. The OUT LOUD Series is FREE and open to the public.

In addition to its featured productions, Ars Nova supports and develops new work from the most promising emerging artists through its alternative comedy series (Tragedy Tomorrow), music series (Uncharted), public play-reading series (Out Loud), writer's group (Play Group) and artist-in-residence program.
