Ariana DeBose and More to Join Charlie Rosen's Broadway Big Band at 54 Below, 2/1
Fresh from her solo cabaret engagement at 54 Below, Broadway starlet Ariana DeBose (Motown, Bring It On) has joined the previously announced line-up for the upcoming return of Charlie Rosen's Broadway Big Band. This marks DeBose's third guest appearance with the ensemble. DeBose will perform material she has never sung with the Rosen's Big Band before.
After smash hit engagements in March, May, and September, Charlie Rosen's Broadway Big Band will return to the intimate Manhattan venue 54 Below on February 1st. In addition to DeBose, Tony Award nominee Daniel Breaker, Rebecca Naomi Jones, and Andy Mientus are among the evening's performers.
The 11 PM concert, co-produced and directed by Max Friedman, will feature guest vocalists Nick Blaemire (Godspell, Dogfight), Daniel Breaker (Passing Strange, Shrek: The Musical), Ariana DeBose (Motown, Bring It On: The Musical), Hannah Elless (Godspell, The Other Josh Cohen), Jason Gotay (Bring It On: The Musical, Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark), Rebecca Naomi Jones (Passing Strange, American Idiot), Julia Mattison (Godspell), and Andy Mientus (NBC's "Smash," Les Miserables).
Returning vocalists Breaker, DeBose, Elless, and Gotay will all perform songs they have never previously sung with Rosen's Broadway Big BanD. Jones, Mattison, and Mientus are all making their debut appearances with the band.
Here's how the evening is billed: "Join Broadway bandleader Charlie Rosen (One Man, Two Guvnors) for an evening that puts both modern and classic showtunes on display, sung by the best and brightest of Broadway's young generation of leading performers, in the timeless tradition of Big Band. A full sized Jazz orchestra composed of 17 musicians play Rosen's re-imagined arrangements of an eclectic mix of tunes from Broadway's past, present, and beyond!"
Rosen previously composed the score for the Roundabout Theater Company's Cyrano de Bergerac and served as musical director and bassist for the onstage band in One Man, Two Guvnors on Broadway. His other Broadway credits also include Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson and 13. With Friedman, he co-created the original Sondheim jazz revue, The Bluest Ink. His debut EP, "Monet Sabel & The Charlie Rosen Big Band," is now available on iTunes. A single version of Broadway Big Band fan favorite, Rosen's arrangement of Adele's "Rolling In The Deep" (featuring Hannah Elless, Monet Julia Sabel, and Alysha Umpress) is available as a free download on SoundCloud.
