Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical Cats will play the Open Air Theatre at Regent's Park summer 2013, according to the Daily Mail's Baz Bamigboye.

Read the original report here.

Cats features music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and first opened in London in 1981, followed by a Broadway production in 1982. The musical won numerous awards, including both the Laurence Olivier Award and the Tony Award for Best Musical. The London production ran for 21 years and the Broadway production ran for 18, both setting long-run records. Cats is now the second longest-running show in Broadway history, and the fourth longest-running West End musical. It has been performed around the world and has been translated into more than 20 languages.

Whether the Regent's Park show will be cast in the same manner as Webber's upcoming touring production of Jesus Christ Superstar—by reality TV competition—remains to be seen. Webber's reality TV search "SUPERSTAR" launches on ITV1 July 7.

SUPERSTAR is described as "a brand new show that will give the British public the chance to choose the country’s next major rock star." Auditions have been held across the country in London, Dublin, Belfast, Manchester, Glasgow and Cardiff. The winner of the show will be given the lead role in the Jesus Christ Superstar tour.

Webber's previous reality searches (How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?, I'd Do Anything, Any Dream Will Do and Over The Rainbow) aired on the BBC.
