Amy Spanger's THIS MUST BE THE PLACE Set for Joe's Pub This Month
Broadway gal Amy Spanger and her partner, musical whiz-kid Kris Kukul, are proud to present THIS MUST BE THE PLACE, an evening of rock, pop, music theater, country, R&B and candid storytelling at Joe's Pub on August 24, 2015 at 7:30 PM. Tickets: $20.
The show will feature some of the songs that put her on the map including "Don't Stop Believing" from Rock Of Ages, "Always True To You Darlin In My Fashion" from Kiss Me Kate, and "Come To Your Senses" from tick, tick... Boom! She'll also share some glamorous and not so glamorous tales as she reflects on the places she's lived and people she's lived with along the way including a budding schizophrenic, a pair of cocaine enthusiasts and a couple of husbands.
Ever since her break out performance as Lois/Bianca in Broadway's Tony Award-winning Kiss Me Kate, Amy has been cheered by audiences and critics alike for her star turns in shows like tick, tick...BOOM!, The Wedding Singer, Urinetown, Elf, Rock of Ages, and Chicago. Ben Brantley of the New York Times called her "a fresh young star in the making". She's guest starred on Royal Pains, Ed, Law and Order: SVU, Six Feet Under, and Bored To Death. She also played the depraved drug fiend Sally in Showtime's original movie musical Reefer Madness, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and went on to become a cult classic. She just wrapped filming the indie thriller No Beast So Fierce, starring opposite Dylan Baker.
Amy and Kris met at the Williamstown Theater Festival, where Amy played Gwendolyn in David Hyde Pierce's production of The Importance Of Being Earnest, and Kris served as music director of the Williamstown Late Night Cabaret Series. They are currently collaborating on the new work Songbird by Michael Kimmel with music by Lauren Pritchard. Together, they have curated this hour long concert designed to showcase Amy's killer pipes and self deprecating sense of humor.
