Academy Theater Presents Screening Of FUNNY GIRL 11/15

After completion of major renovations to the Academy Theater at Lighthouse International, the Academy celebrates the return of 'Monday Nights with Oscar' by presenting the crowd-pleasing movie musical FUNNY GIRL, based on the hit 1964 Broadway musical Monday, November 15 at 7:00 pm.

Directed by William Wyler from a screenplay by Isobel Lennart, who also wrote the Broadway book, FUNNY GIRL features show-stopping musical numbers 'Don't Rain on My Parade,' 'People,' and 'My Man.' Barbra Streisand,reprising her onstage role as legendary Ziegfeld Follies comedienne Fanny Brice, gave a star-making performance that earned her an Academy Award® for Best Actress. The film co-stars Kay Medford in an Academy Award-nominated performance, as well as Walter Pidgeon, Lee Allen and Omar Sharif as Brice's husband, gambler Nick Arnstein.

FUNNY GIRL garnered eight Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture (Ray Stark). In addition to Streisand's win, the other nominations include Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Medford), Best Cinematography (Harry Stradling Sr.), Best Film Editing (Robert Swink, Maury Winetrobe, Williams Sands), Best Music - Original Song 'Funny Girl' (Jule Styne, Bob Merrill), Best Music - Score (Walter Scharf) and Best Sound (Columbia Studio Sound Dept.).

Tickets for the screening will be $5 or $3 for Academy members and students with a valid student ID. The screening will take place at Lighthouse International, 111 East 59th Street (Park and Lex) New York, New York 10022.
