Abingdon Theatre Company presents the Father Hamblin New Play One-Act Festival on Saturday, August 9 at 7:00PM, for free. Three playwrights were commissioned to write on the themes of True Faith, True Commitment and/or True Friendship for the festival, and all of the plays will receive staged readings.


Shepherd by Jonathan Alexandratos
After an IED explosion in Afghanistan costs him his legs, Marine Corporal Cordero returns home and adopts Zeto, the German Shepherd he patrolled with that fateful day. Together, they must find the legs and the will to walk on from their shared trauma.

Exiled by Elaine Mellilo Insinnia
When Ana, 85, stabs an obnoxious nursing home resident with a fork, she is exiled to her room. Three wheelchair-bound residents-Irene, Little Bette, and Julie-are Ana's dearest friends. They decide they must free their friend and will use any means to succeed.

Safe Haven by Nandita Shenoy
The last nun at a Catholic hospital, Sister Mathilde, finds herself saddled with housing the pregnant wife of new Indian medical resident. Finding herself on the wrong side of the hospital's executive director, Sister Mathilde must choose between her job and her calling.
