AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY Tops Winners of Capri, Hollywood Film Festival

The big screen adaptation of Tracy Letts' August: Osage County took home four awards at this year's Capri, Hollywood Film Festival, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Winners of the annual event were announced Wednesday, January 1st on the picturesque island of Capri, off the coast of Naples.Capri.

The film was honored as the festival's Film of the Year, an award which often serves as an accurate predictor of the upcoming award's season. Last year's winner, David O. Russell's Silver Linings Playbook collected eight Academy Award nominations, and the year before that, The Artist garnered five Oscars including one for best film.

August: Osage County star Meryl Streep, who was not in attendance at the festival, won the award for best actress. The film's all-star cast, including Julia Roberts, Ewan McGregor and Chris Cooper, earned the best acting ensemble prize. In addition, Cooper was honored with the festival's lifetime achievement award earlier in the week.

The film hits theaters nationwide on January 10th.

Tracy Letts' Pulitzer Prize-winning play of the same name made its Broadway debut in December 2007 after premiering at Chicago's legendary Steppenwolf Theatre earlier that year. It continued with a successful international run and was the winner of five Tony Awards in 2008, including Best Play. AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY is directed byJohn Wells (THE COMPANY MEN) and features an all-star cast, including Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Ewan McGregor, Chris Cooper, Abigail Breslin, Benedict Cumberbatch, Juliette Lewis, Margo Martindale, Dermot Mulroney,Sam Shepard and Misty Upham.
