Tony Award ® Child Star, Trent Kowalik of Billy Elliot teaches a Workshop for Kids & Teens

Award-winning Acting Studio for kids and teens welcomes

Billy Elliot stars Trent Kowalik, Thommie Retter, and A Talent Agent for a One-Day Billy Elliot Workshop

A Class Act NY, New York City's award-winning acting studio for kids and teens, is proud to announce that Tony Award winning actor, Trent Kowalik, who originated the role of Billy Elliot on Broadway will be joining Thommie Retter (Mr. Braithwaite) and a Talent Agent for a one-day Billy Elliot theme Workshop on Saturday, March 21st.

Trent started taking dance lessons at the age of 3 ½ at Dorothy's School of Music on Long Island. He is a five-time undefeated North American Champion and a World Champion in Irish step dancing. "Trent is probably one of the most genius tap dancers we've ever come across, so he's had to learn ballet," said director, Mr. Daldry in a New York Times article. Not only had the three Billy's never had any acting or singing experience, but they also had to learn to speak in a Northern English accent.

The role is grueling to say the least. The boys are on stage for nearly three hours.

Trent was the veteran of the group having starred in the London production before coming to the Great White Way. He went through a year and a half of auditions before he landed the role. "It's hard to imagine such a young boy having to leave his family and move to the U.K.," said Artistic Director, Jessica Rofé. "It takes a great deal of maturity and professionalism. These are some of the traits we try to engender in our students." Now, Trent lives in New York City, while his family still lives on Long Island.

Trent will work with Thommie Retter (Mr. Braithwaite) on the Finale to Billy Elliot. Kids will learn the lyrics and put it together with the dance combo. Then, Trent will work with the kids on the Geordie accent he's had to master for the role, as well as scene work from the show. For the musical theatre audition technique portion of the class, kids will bring in 16 bars of their own music to perform in a mock audition. Trent and a talent agent will give the kids helpful pointers.

During lunch break, kids get to pick Trent's brain about what it's like to be a child star in Broadway's biggest smash hit. He will also sign autographs.

"I am so thrilled that Trent will be coming to our studio. This is such a rare and unique opportunity for our students. I don't think I've ever been this excited about a workshop before. His performance as Billy was so moving. It made a huge impression on me," says Rofé.

Space is limited so all students are guaranteed to get the attention they deserve, leaving with special memories they will cherish forever!
