The 11th annual "Shred For Your Life" Guitar Battle will take place on October 18th at Webster Hall (The Marlin Room).

The event was started by musician/artist Marc Razo (Endless Boogie) in 2005 in the back of Max Fish and has been challenging 13 to 54 year olds to shred their best for the past 11 years.

Hosted from the beginning by the venerable Wilder Zoby, each year "Shred For Your Life" secures some of the best shred-worthy judges and this year is no exception with Matt Sweeney (Guitar Moves, Chavez, Iggy Pop), El P (Run the Jewels), Don "Nuge" Nguyen (Professional Skateboarder/musician, Arctic, Lords of Dogtown), and Damien Paris (The Giraffes, 2-time Winner of SFYL) on the panel. The competitors are backed by a kick-ass rhythm section that this year features John Stanier (Helmet, Battles) and BradTruax (Interpol, Soldiers of Fourtune).

"Shred For Your Life" is for everyone from the insane shredder to the music fan. The battle welcomes all styles of playing and appreciates originality as well as a sense of humor. Steadily growing for the past 11 years, "Shred For Your Life" has a strong history and has had some amazing, gifted, and notable people take part in the event as contestants, judges and rhythm section players including but not limited to Brent Hinds (Mastodon), David Cross, Kirke Douglas (The Roots), Mike Einziger (Incubus), Vernon Reid (Living Colour), Greg Hetson (Circle Jerks), Walter Schreifels (Gorilla Biscuits, Quicksand, Vanishing Life), Jaleel Bunton (TV On the Radio), Andrew WK, Rhandy Randall (No Age), Sergio Vega (Deftones) and Blake Mills (Band of Horses).

Handmade prizes have been created each year by talented artists including Andrew Kuo, Neck Face, Meryl Smith, Spencer Sweeney, Andre Razo, Othello Gervacio, Kevin Spanky Long, Tino Razo and Chris Yormick to name a few and this year's prizes were crafted by Meryl Smith, Andrew Kuo and Chris Yormick.

Also this year SFYL is going to take one contestant via Instagram. You must be 21 or over to enter and live in the Tri-State Area. If you'd like to audition for the battle, please DM a One Minute Video of yourself playing to: @shred4yourlife on Instagram.
