Lea Salonga Comes to Popejoy Hall

Tony-Award winner, Lea Salonga has amazed audiences all over the world with her powerful voice and perfect pitch since her start in 1978. Salonga embarks on "The Human Heart" tour, paying homage to her jaw-dropping musical number from Once on This Island. Lea Salonga will perform well-known Broadway hits, Disney favorites, and beloved pop and musical theatre standards on Tuesday, April 9 at 7:30pm at Popejoy Hall.

As an acclaimed Broadway star, Lea Salonga professionally debuted at the age of seven with her performance in The King and I. Three years later, Salonga released her first album, Small Voice. At 12 years old, she expanded her talent when she hosted her own musical television show "Love Lea." Salonga's talent took her to Broadway after preforming in productions of Annie, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Fiddler on the Roof, and The Sound of Music in the Philippines. In 1989, Lea Salonga originated the role of Kim in Miss Saigon on London's West End. In 2001, she won a Tony-Award, Theater World Award, Outer Critics Circle, and Drama Desk Award for her role in Miss Saigon preceding her return to close the production on Broadway.

Following Miss Saigon, she gained the attention of the Walt Disney Company, providing the musical talent for Princess Jasmine of Aladdin and Fa Mulan of Mulan. The Walt Disney Company named Lea Salonga a "Disney Legend" in 2011 for her musical contributions.

Salonga is also the first actress of Asian descent to perform the roles of Eponine and Fantine in Les Misérables. In January 2019, Salonga finished her two-year long role as Goddess of Love, Erzulie, in the Tony-Award winning Broadway show, Once on This Island. In addition to her talent, Lea Salonga has appeared on Sesame Street, ER, and Crazy Ex-Girlfriendand is a judge on The Voice of The Philippines.
