FIJIAN FLYING CIRCUS to Tour Australia
Proceeds from ticket sales will fund performing arts education for young Fijian artists.
VOU's Fijian Flying Circus will bring a world-first fusion of circus and Fijian storytelling to Darwin, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, with every ticket funding free performing arts education for the next generation of Fijian artists.
VOU (the most internationally toured contemporary dance company from the Pacific) is bringing its acclaimed production, the Fijian Flying Circus, to Australia this August. The tour lands off the back of a milestone year for the Fiji-based tribe: two consecutive invitations to perform at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and, in early 2026, the distinction of becoming the first Fijian company to headline a major New Zealand arts festival.
Presented by Fiji Airways and supported by Neptune Pacific, the tour brings the company's raw acrobatics, foot-stomping energy and signature Fijian humour to audiences in Darwin, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, running from August 2026 through January 2027.
A World-First Fusion, Born by Happenstance
Fiji's only professional circus began almost by accident. VOU, an acclaimed contemporary dance company founded in Suva in 2007, crossed paths with a group of touring circus trainers who stayed on to train alongside the dancers, and happened to have a spare circus tent. What started as an experiment became the Fijian Flying Circus: gravity-defying acrobatics, aerial work and drama woven into indigenous storytelling rooted in Fijian myth and legend, launched in 2024 as Fiji's first and only professional circus.
But what truly sets the show apart is its spirit. It's infused with the warmth and infectious happiness Fiji is known for, wrapped in plenty of laughter and cheeky Fijian humour - a performance built to lift the spirit and remind audiences of the simple joy of human connection.

Entertainment With a Heart: The Purpose
Behind the acrobatics and laughter is VOU's founding mission: turning raw creative talent into sustainable careers for young Fijians. Ticket proceeds support the Conservatorium of Dance (Fiji's first accredited tertiary dance qualification) which each year awards 20 young Fijians a fully-funded two-year diploma in Performing Arts, plus accommodation and a living allowance for the duration of their studies. Every graduate is guaranteed full-time work with the VOU Dance Company. VOU now employs more than 80 Fijians in the creative arts, with women holding the majority of its leadership roles.
"Our dream is to build a world where young Fijians have access to quality creative education, allowing them to use their gifts to carve out real, sustainable careers," says Sachiko Soro, Director of VOU. "We train our youth to an elite international standard so they can step onto the world stage with confidence. We believe that Fijians have a special kind of contagious happiness, that, combined with beautiful cultural storytelling through circus, dance, acrobats and humour, together we can create magic and human connection even for a moment. Right now, the world just needs more happiness, more joy, and more bridges. For us, those bridges are the canvas of a circus tent, a place where people can come together, escape for a moment, and share a laugh."
Founded in Suva in 2007, VOU (meaning "new" in Fijian) has grown into the most internationally toured contemporary dance company from the Pacific, having performed in more than 35 countries. In 2025 and again in April 2026, the tribe represented Fiji at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, activating the Arts of Oceania galleries with movement and sound. Just months before its Australian tour, VOU made history as the first Fijian company invited to headline a major New Zealand arts festival, topping the bill at the Hamilton Arts Festival after a season at the Wellington Fringe Festival, a trip backed by the New Zealand High Commission.
