Vanishing Point, Scotland's leading theatre company, return to London for the first time since their critically acclaimed production Subway enjoyed a sell-out Lyric run in 2007. Interiors is a brand new production born out of a major international collaboration with Napoli Teatro Festival Italia and Traverse Theatre, inspired by the 1891 play Interior by Belgian playwright Maurice Maeterlinck.

Press notes describe the show as, "Behind a window, in a cosy room, a group of friends sit down for a meal. The food is being cooked; the lamps are on, everyone is happy. Talk begins and stories unfold around the table, stories about the living and the dead, about missing necklaces and what happens when people get hungry".

Interiors takes as its starting point the central themes of Interior but in contrast to Maeterlinck's play, director Matthew Lenton turns the focus from the observer to the observed. Lenton's production also explores the idea of isolation. Each character in the room is isolated from the others by the secrets they hide and the information they hold. So too are they separated from the reality of the world outside the window. The set design - a room which separates the characters from the audience, will allow us to witness barriers rising and falling and to see private emotions contrasted with public face.

A hypnotic and comic show, Interiors incorporates performance, ambitious design and projection to create a visually stunning show about sound, silence, and the darkness outside the window.

Interiors is a Vanishing Point Theatre Company co-production with Napoli Teatro Festival Italia and Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh in association with Lyric Hammersmith and Tron Theatre, developed with the support of National Theatre Studio.
