"Hi it's me. I know we're not meant to be talking right now, but..."

This August The Old Vic Community Company is collaborating with Flying Object to create a technology-led interactive experience in response to The Old Vic Community Company's 2016 play, RISE.

London Calling can be experienced at phone-booths around The Old Vic, or on your own mobile. Three special telephone booths have been installed in Waterloo Millennium Green opposite The Old Vic, and a further phone can be found in the café of the theatre. They will ring at random intervals throughout the day for two weeks.

On answering the phone, Londoners will find themselves listening in on an intimate voicemail message left by one Londoner to another. The anonymous voicemails include messages of unrequited love, gratitude, regret and confession.

People can sign-up to hear the voicemails on their own mobile at londoncalling.oldvictheatre.com

The Old Vic Community Company's production of RISE explores the impact of living in a city where the temperature is rising. 200 Londoners will take over a brand new pop-up venue on Waterloo Millennium Green to present a kaleidoscope of ideas, discussions and stories that distil into a human, personal story exploring our relationship with the environment.

This digital project has been developed with the generous support of Bloomberg Philanthropies, who share The Old Vic's belief in engaging the community through the transformative power of theatre. Through this collaborative partnership The Old Vic Community Company has drawn on Bloomberg Philanthropies' expertise in digital technologies in the arts, environmental sustainability and education. This support has been invaluable to the scale and creative ambition of this project, which underscores The Old Vic's vision - to make exceptional, accessible theatre.

RISE will take place from 10-21 August 2016 and will be performed at a pop up venue on Waterloo Millennium Green opposite The Old Vic (Baylis Road, London SE1 7AA).

Londoners will have the chance to experience London Calling between 9-21 August, 10am until 10pm. You can also sign-up to hear the messages on your own phone for free. Just visit londoncalling.oldvictheatre.com and enter your number.
