After celebrating 27 years in the West End, The Woman in Black embarks on its major UK tour, opening at the Lichfield Garrick tonight 13 September.

Stephen Mallatratt's adaptation of Susan Hill's best-selling novel tells the story of a lawyer obsessed with a curse that he believes has been cast over him and his family by the spectre of a 'Woman in Black'.

He engages a young actor to help him tell his story and exorcise the fear that grips his soul. It begins innocently enough, but as they delve further into his darkest memories, they find themselves caught up in a world of eerie marshes and moaning winds. The borders between make believe and reality begin to blur and the flesh begins to creep.

David Acton is set to play Mr Kipps and The Actor will be played by Matthew Spencer.

This gripping production, directed by Robin Herford, is a brilliantly successful study in atmosphere, illusion and controlled horror.

The Woman in Black runs at the Lichfield Garrick from tonight 13 to Saturday 17 September 2016 with a variety of evening and matinee performances.

Tickets start from £20, and can be booked online at www.lichfieldgarrick.com or by calling the Box Office on 01543 412121.

The West End show and tour are produced by PW Productions - the company behind the New Arts Theatre at Leicester Square.

The production's huge popularity has reached a global level, having toured to the United States, South America, Tokyo and Singapore. In 2012, Susan Hill's novel The Woman in Black was released as a major motion picture, starring Daniel Radcliffe, which became the highest grossing British horror film in 20 years. The sequel to that film, The Woman in Black 2: Angel Of Death, came out in 2014.

The production is directed by Robin Herford, with designs by Michael Holt, lighting by Kevin Sleep and sound by Gareth Owen.

The Lichfield Garrick is a modern purpose built theatre first opened in 2003. It plays host to the best and widest range of musical theatre, drama, comedy, music and family entertainment in the City of Lichfield.

The Garrick is home to more than 400 performances each year in its two theatre spaces, the Theatre, capacity 562, and the Studio, capacity 157.

The theatre, which regularly produces and co-produces work, runs an artist development programme and a community engagement programme that works with local schools and arts organisations throughout the year.

The Lichfield Garrick also runs weekly programmes, including The Garrick Young Rep, Dee Gees Saturday Club and The Garrick Youth Theatre.

The Artistic Director is Tim Ford.
