Andrew Lloyd Webber's son, Nick, is following in his father's footsteps. The 30-year-old composer is writing a musical version of THE TEMPEST.

The new project is in collaboration with the director of the Oxford Shakespeare Company, Mick Gordon. Until now, the composer had been using 'Nick Webber' as his professional name, however THE TEMPEST will see him use his full name, Nick Lloyd Webber.

Lloyd Webber recently told Express.co.uk that a move into stage musicals was not something he originally planned. "It really wasn't on my flight plan to work in theatre but there you go."

Speaking about the music for one of the scenes in the production he tells The Stage: "It's very funny and ends up as a chaotic, awfully choreographed piece of music and dance that is my little nod, shall we say, to a certain legacy of mine."

Although he has one of the world's most successful composers as his dad, Nick reveals that he hasn't even shown him the score for his new show, which will tour venues including Greenwich Royal Park and Hampton Court Palace.

Nick confesses that he has not show his famous father the score - yet. "I've not run it past him. He's been a bit busy lately. But I'm sure he'll tell me about it one way or the other."

The Tempest will first play Wadham College Gardens in Oxford in rep with Private Lives this summer beginning June 9, and will follow with various open air productions in locations in London, as well. Stops include Greenwich Royal Park and Hampton Court Palace from June 9.

No stranger to musical composition, Lloyd Webber has composed three previous scores for Oxford Shakespeare Company productions and has additionally composed for film and television.

Specialising in site-specific event theatre, the Oxford Shakespeare Company produces Shakespearean and other classic texts to both loyal and new audiences of all ages and nationalities; predominantly in the Oxfordshire and London areas, always in remarkable places.
