The Daily Mail reports that Birgitte Hjort Sorensen will play Virgilia, the wife of Coriolanus, in Donmar Warehouse's upcoming production of the Shakespearean drama, starring Tom Hiddleston in the title role.

"She's one of the few characters who doesn't say a lot," Sorensen told the Mail, talking about her character. "It's all going on inside. She's the calm sea, almost, between her husband and Volumnia."

This will be Sorensen's first time performing Shakespeare in the UK. She joins a cast featuring Hadley Fraser as Aufidius -- Coriolanus' foe -- Mark Gatiss as Menenius -- his counselor -- and Deborah Findlay as Volumnia -- his mother-in-law.

Josie Rourke directs, with designer Lucy Osborne, lighting by Mark Henderson, sound by Emma Laxton, movement by Jonathan Watkins and fight director Richard Ryan.

Donmar's description of the show reads: "When an old adversary threatens Rome, the city calls once more on her hero and defender: Coriolanus. But famine threatens the city, the citizens' hunger swells to an appetite for change, and on returning from the field Coriolanus must confront the march of realpolitik and the voice of an angry people."

Rehearsals will begin later this month, with previews set to begin at Donmar Warehouse on December 6. CORIOLANUS will run through February 8, 2014.

Danish actress Sorensen's upcoming big screen projects include Someone You Love and Automata. She also stars in the TV series Borgen. She studied at the Danish National School of Theatre and starred as Roxie Hart in the musical Chicago in Copenhagen in 2007 -- a part which she reprised at the Cambridge Theatre in London.
