The Hub Theatre has announced plans for their 6th Season. Following the success of last season's area and world premiers, the theatre continues its exploration of new work that has had the Washington Post extolling them as 'adventurous' on multiple occasions. The Hub kicks off their season in November with the U. S. Premier of David Yee's CARRIED AWAY ON THE CREST OF A WAVE. Yee has wowed Canadian audiences with his provocative writing and The Hub is thrilled to share his newest play fresh off its world premier in Toronto. Meanwhile, The Hub is fast at work with local playwright and Executive Director of The Inkwell, Anne McCaw, on their newest commission entitled A NATIVITY TALE OR PEEKABOO: WHERE'S THE BABY? Audiences will be treated to a December showing of a zany and high energy joyride as this new play alights on the struggles of new parents and a celebrity baby. Later in the winter, The Hub brings back its HUB PLAY FEST, with a series of readings and panel discussions. In the spring, The Hub presents Philip Dawkins' magical play, FAILURE: A LOVE STORY. Dawkins' exuberant script will be a DC area premier. Closing out the season in July is the World Premier of ABOMINABLE by Hub's own Helen Hayes nominated Artistic Director Helen Pafumi.

This is The Hub's most adventurous season to date! It tackles tsunamis, birth, death, beasts, angels and true love. Subscriptions are on sale now. Individual tickets will go on sale at a later time.

SEASON 6 at THE HUB

CARRIED AWAY ON THE CREST OF A WAVE
by David Yee * Directed byHelen Pafumi * November 15 - December 8, 2013

This U.S. Premier, directed by Helen Pafumi, explores how a singular, cataclysmic event - the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami - illustrates the interconnectedness of all things. From an escort in Thailand to a Catholic priest in India to a housewife in Utah, this is what happens when the events that tie us together are the same that tear us apart.

The Hub Theatre welcomes Canadian playwright David Yee. Yee is currently the Artistic Director of fu-GEN Theatre Company, Canada's only professional Asian Canadian theatre company which he also co-founded. He is also a Dora Mavor Moore Award nominated actor and playwright.

A NATIVITY TALE OR PEEKABOO: WHERE'S THE BABY?
by Anne McCaw * Directed by Matthew Bassett * One Night Only Special Event* December 21, 2013

The Hub brings a holiday adventure as Mary and Joseph have just learned that they are to be parents, of the world's savior no less. That's a lot to swallow for a couple of naive kids, and now they find themselves caught in the middle of angels, a paranoid politician and his minions, the innkeepers union, soldiers, shepherds, farm animals, and some strange kid following them around with a drum. Is there anywhere to hide... and is there anyway to protect a newborn on whom the whole world has pinned its hopes?

Join The Hub for the first look at our newest commissioned work from local playwright and Executive Director of The Inkwell Anne M. McCaw, and directed by Hub Company Member Matthew Bassett. This holiday joyride will be perfect for the whole family.

FAILURE: A LOVE STORY
* by Philip Dawkins* April 11 - May 4, 2014

Failure: A Love Story takes us to 1928, the last year of each of the Fail Sisters' lives. Nelly was the first of the Fail girls to die, followed soon after by her sisters Jenny June and Gerty. As with so many things in life - blunt objects, disappearances and consumption-they never saw death coming. Written by Chicago playwright Philip Dawkins, Failure: A Love Story is a magical, musical fable that traces the sisters' triumphs and defeats, lived out in the rickety two-story building by the Chicago River that was the Fail family home and clock shop. This funny, moving and profoundly wise play reminds us that in the end, all that remains is love.

Philip Dawkins received the Joseph Jefferson Nomination for New Work in 2011 and has had his plays produced nationwide. The Hub welcomes his fresh and innovative playwrighting for this DC Area Premier.

ABOMINABLE
by Helen Pafumi * Directed by Kirsten Kelly * July 11 - August 3, 2014

Two time Helen Hayes Nominee Kirsten Kelly takes a break from her demanding documentary filming schedule and returns to The Hub after her smash hit Big Love last summer to direct the world premier of ABOMINABLE by Helen Pafumi. Pafumi's work was last seen at Theatre Alliance this past year in the Helen Hayes nominated adaptation of Wonderful Life which she co-wrote with Hub veteran Jason Lott. Kelly is near wrapping Homestretch, a MacArthur Foundation and Sundance supported documentary about homeless youth in Chicago.

In ABOMINABLE, Sam is dealing with a lot, but so do all teenagers. His bones are growing so fast that sometimes he feels inhuman. Meanwhile a mysterious and beastly footprint is discovered in the middle of town. While his mother tries to find out what is happening to Sam, more footprints appear and terrify the community as gossip and mayhem abound. A play that walks the brink between boy and man, and man and beast.
