The Shakespeare Theatre Company announces a second extension of its current production of The Metromaniacs, by David Ives, directed by Michael Kahn. The Metromaniacs, previously extended to Sunday, March 15, will play five additional performances, Thursday, March 19 through Sunday, March 22, at the Lansburgh Theatre (450 7th Street NW).

David Ives has adapted The Metromaniacs in a manner that breathes fresh life into the story, giving it crisp, modern language for contemporary audiences, and infusing it with wit and clever wordplay, all set in rhyming verse. Since beginning previews on February 3 and opening February 9, The Metromaniacs has delighted audiences and critics alike, with the Washington Post calling it an "ingenious resurrection of an obscure 18th-century French comedy," and an "almost criminally enjoyable world premiere (in verse!)." DC Metro Theater Arts says "this group is a dream team full of sparkle and luster," and the play is "built for a new century with laughs that will last" according to Metro Weekly.

"Kahn and Ives have struck gold again," says Broadway World, of this third play in Ives's series of rediscovered French comedy masterpieces. Following The Heir Apparent (2011) and The Liar (2010), Ives's presentation of Alexis Piron's classic 1738 French farce once again applies his brilliant sense of comedic timing to a lost classic.

Beginning Tuesday, March 10, the role of Dorante will be played by Dan Amboyer. Amboyer is known for playing Prince William in the TV movie William & Catherine: A Royal Romance. He has appeared regionally and Off-Broadway at the Old Globe, HERE, PS122, and the 92nd Street Y; in readings at Classic Stage Company and McCarter Theatre; and in numerous television and film roles, including Darren Star's new series Younger as well as the upcoming Batman v Superman film.
