What started in 2011 as a theatre lover's response to the hoopla and fanfare of March Madness basketball, returns to our nation's capital for its fourth dramatic year!

Created by local actor-entrepreneur Edward Daniels, Monologue Madness has become a yearly tradition, entertaining sold-out audiences, and giving local acting talent the chance to shine before a panel of theatre and film casting professionals.

On Selection Sunday, over 200 actors audition at an open call and only 32 of them make the cut into a single-elimination tournament bracket.

Two weeks later, on Championship Sunday, each actor arrives prepared with three of their best one-minute monologues, to perform before a live audience and a panel of judges. The rounds are Comedy, Drama, and Classical. Taking the stage in pairings and scored individually, one actor advances to the next round, while the other is eliminated.

For those actors breaking into the Final Four, the evening becomes a bit more interesting. This is the Cold Read Round. Actors are handed an unseen monologue and are given five minutes to prepare, before returning to the stage to present before audience and judges.

Requirements of the Final Round are never revealed until the competition evening. Each actor receives an array of career-enhancing gifts and the competition winner walks away with $1000.

Since 2011, sold-out audiences have been madly entertained by that one thing every actor uses to land their next role, the monologue!

"I've been so pleased with the growth of this event," says Daniels, "There's some serious talent in this town, but seeing actors from New York and Philadelphia who travel to compete in this, the audience members on the edges of their seats during that final round, the casting directors who want in on the action...it's just electric!"

Monologue Madness 2014 returns to the beautiful & historic Miracle Theatre, Sunday, April 6. Audience tickets go on sale Monday, March 10. Complete competition details are online at www.MonologueMadness.net.
