Lewis Carroll's CLASSIC "ALICE'S ADVENTURES
IN WONDERLAND" TO OPEN AT PLAYGROUND THEATER NOVEMBER 6 AS THE
INAUGURAL PRODUCTION OF THE 5th ANNIVERSARY
Launching its fifth season as one of South Florida's major theatrical producing companies, producer/director Stephanie Ansin's much applauded production of Lewis Carroll's classic "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" will preview Thursday and Friday, November 6 and 7, followed by the official season opening Saturday, November 8, at 3 PM at The PlayGround Theatre 9806 NE 2nd Avenue, Miami Shores. In Ansin's bold version co-adapted and designed by Fernando Calzadilla, time, space, and cultures collide as the precocious heroine tackles the challenges of her ever-changing world with the familiar tale unfolding with a tropical twist. Videographer María Teresa Alvarado's video and photographic projections promise to create visual representations and interpretations of Alice's journey through Wonderland and her experiences of growing and shrinking.
Included in the ensemble cast of ten are Melissa Almaguer, Linda Bernhard, Edgar Caraballo, Carolina Fonseca, Jeff Keogh, Noah Levine, Gonzalo Madurga, Kristen Dawn McCorkell, Marjorie O'Neil-Butler, and Jesús Quintero. Set, costumes, and lighting design are by Calzadilla, with original music and sound designed by Luciano Stazzone.
Indicative of its commitment to the growth of its youthful audiences to appreciate the world of legitimate ("live") theater, is The PlayGround Theatre's "Behind the Curtain Workshops" which accompanies each of its productions. "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" will be held at The PlayGround Theatre; Saturday, December 6 from 10 AM to 1 PM. Children will learn the inner workings of production including sets, lighting, costumes, choreography, music, and rehearsal.
