Northern Stage to Open Season with First-Ever Repertory: A DOLL'S HOUSE and ROBERT FROST: THIS VERSE BUSINESS

Protagonist Nora epitomizes struggles against the constraints of social conformity as she confronts her identity and the state of her marriage in A Doll's HousE. Northern Stage is producing a new version of the classic adapted by Robert Kropf. "[A Doll's House] is really a reminder that we can change, we can work to become our better selves. Sometimes it may take risking it all but it is possible," says Northern Stage Managing Director Eric Bunge, who directs.

Robert Frost: This Verse Business takes the audience on a journey with the beloved poet, through a personal view of Frost at his cabin and his thoughts on science, religion, and poetry. Producing Artistic Director Carol Dunne explains why these two productions were chosen to run simultaneously this fall: "Rotating rep used to be ubiquitous in the American theater, but the difficulties of concurrent productions have dissuaded companies from embarking on rep. We love a challenge, and our fall repertory is the perfect artistic feast for our audiences. Ibsen and Frost were masters of the written word, and Frost's profound observations on the beauty of the natural world as well as Ibsen's reflection on the still relevant inequalities faced by women encourage serious consideration and dialogue."

The repertory stars Emmy-winning and Tony-nominated actor Gordon Clapp (Television: NYPD Blue, Chicago Fire, Grey's Anatomy, Elementary; Broadway: Glengarry, Glen Ross). In addition, the Doll's House cast features Olivia Gilliatt (Denver Center: Disgraced, Palm Beach Dramaworks, New London Barn Playhouse: Picasso at the Lapin Agile and I Hate Hamlet, Dartmouth College graduate), Jeffries Thaiss (Seattle Rep, Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, Cincinnati Playhouse, Olney Theater Center, Portland Stage, Idaho Shakespeare Festival, New London Barn Playhouse), Matthew Cohn (Northern Stage: The Importance of Being Earnest, New London Barn Playhouse: A Little Night Music, Dartmouth College graduate), and Hannah Chodos, also a Dartmouth College graduate.

The creative team is completed with Alek Deva, A.M. Dolan, Anne Furman, Hunter Kaczorowski, Gus Kaikkonen, Ben Montmagny, Tyler M. Perry, Robert Pickens, Alexander Woodward (a native of the Upper Valley), and Danielle Zandri.

A free "Spot On" moderated conversation with retired Executive Director of AVA Gallery Bente Torjusen and A Doll's House director Eric Bunge will contextualize the Ibsen production. Legendary visual artist Edvard Munch (most well-known for his painting "The Scream") and Henrik Ibsen were contemporaries, and Bente will lead a dialogue about how these two Norwegian masters informed and influenced each other's work on Sunday, September 24 from 3:00-4:30 PM. RSVPS are requested to the Northern Stage box office for the Spot On event. An optional post-show conversation with the company follows the evening performances September 28 and 30 and October 8, 12, 22, 26 and 28. $15 Anytime Student Tickets and $5 Access for All tickets (for EBT card holders) are available for any performance. Adult ticket prices range from $34-$59. A complimentary post-show reception with the cast follows the opening night performances on Saturday, September 23 and Saturday, October 7.
