Faust will be shown at Middlebury's Town Hall Theater on Sunday, January 8, at 1 pm.

Tickets are $24, and $10 for students. Tickets may be purchased at 802 382-9222, www.townhalltheater.org, at the THT box office (noon-5, Monday-Saturday) or at the door.

About Faust: The Metropolitan Opera's new production updates the opera to the period between the two World Wars. In this production Faust becomes a middle-aged scientist working in the lab that develops the atomic bomb. As directed by noted theater director Des McAnuff, this Faust struggles with the very real issue of how unlimited knowledge can turn against civilization.

Faust is played by Jonas Kaufmann, the tenor who recently was given a rare solo recital on the Met stage. Renè Pape is Mephistopheles, and Marina Poplavskaya sings Marguerite.

The production debuted at the English National Opera, which co-produced it with the Met.

The THT presentation is a delayed showing of the live broadcast of December 10, 2011.
