The Marlowe, Canterbury, has received £33,900 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for its next youth production.

Creed Of Spies is a dramatic journey through the city streets, involving a cast of 85. Audience members will be part of the performance, which starts at the theatre and moves to iconic heritage sites, including Westgate Towers, Eastbridge Hospital, Poor Priests' Hospital, Conquest House, Old Weavers Cottage and St George's Tower.

The Marlowe's Creative Engagement Manager, Paul Ainsworth, said Creed Of Spies, which is presented by young people aged 13 to 21 from The Marlowe Youth Companies, follows the success of three previous community productions, all which were based at the theatre.

"Thanks to money raised by National Lottery players, we will take this exciting story into the city and its secret places," he said. "This production allows young people to explore and unlock the darker side of Christopher Marlowe's world of espionage and intrigue."

Paul added: "Guided by hooded avatars, Creed Of Spies fuses promenade play and an immersive parkour trail to unlock the secrets of some of Canterbury's most precious artefacts that conspired to shape the life and death of its most celebrated son, Christopher Marlowe."

Creed Of Spies, which is recommended for those aged 14 and over, starts at 8pm from Sunday 16 to Thursday 20 July. Tickets, priced £6.25 (concessions available) are from the Box Office on 01227 787787, or marlowetheate.com.
