The Library of Birmingham in association with Birmingham Hippodrome and the hit West End and Broadway musical Wicked are pleased to announce an exciting new competition searching for the best of Birmingham young writing talent.

Split into two age categories, 7-11 years and 12-18 years, judges are looking for short stories full of magic, mystery or a tale to capture the imagination. Young Writers are welcomed to write about any subject or story that they want to, as long as it tells a clear and captivating short story. Ages 7-11 are asked to submit between 250-500 words and Ages 12-18, 750-1000 words.

One lucky winner from each category will win a sparklingly emerald day courtesy of Wicked the Musical including the chance to meet some of the cast of the award winning production at the Library of Birmingham before taking their seats at Birmingham Hippodrome to see the musical.

Sara Rowell, Partnerships & Marketing Senior Manager from The Library of Birmingham said 'We're delighted to partner with Birmingham Hippodrome for the Wicked Young Writers Award, which aims to encourage young creative writing talent in the city and region. Children and young people have the very best imaginations and we hope this competition - and the Wicked prize - will inspire them to let their natural story-telling abilities flow and get writing this summer.'
