Birmingham Hippodrome Theatre Development Trust Ltd held a spectacular Gala Dinner on Saturday 10 May attended by nearly 300 people from the region's business community.

On the night, the event raised nearly £50,000 from the auction and donations. The money will help the theatre deliver much-needed education projects, access services and outdoor performances increasing engagement with even more young people across the city.

The event, sponsored by Hotel La Tour Birmingham in association with Shakespeares and supported by pantomime producer Qdos Entertainment, provided a unique opportunity for guests to sit on the Hippodrome's famous stage whilst looking out onto the breathtaking auditorium.

Jane Schofield, Managing Director of Hotel La Tour Birmingham said "We view the Hippodrome as very much the jewel in the crown of the outstanding cultural offering in the city. We are keen to support the invaluable work which the theatre is growing through its Hippodrome Plus programme in inspiring education, access, community and free outdoor performance work."

The specially commissioned entertainment was provided by a glittering cast featuring some of the biggest names from London's West End musicals. These included Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera star Earl Carpenter; Jodie Prenger best remembered for playing the role of Nancy in Sir Cameron Mackintosh's revival production of Oliver!; and Mary Poppins star Caroline Sheen.

Auction prizes included flights on a private jet; Golden Tickets to every Birmingham Hippodrome production for a year; a first-class West End weekend; and a one kilo bar of pure sterling silver.

Stuart Griffiths, Birmingham Hippodrome's Chief Executive said: "Saturday's event marked our fifth Gala Dinner which has now become a popular part of Birmingham's social calendar. This year our fundraising efforts are focused on expanding the work we do across the community, and we are grateful for the generous support we received on the night enabling us to continue to create meaningful live theatrical experiences for generations to come."
