Soprano Cheryl Warfield and tenor Randy Pradera will be the headliners this coming Tuesday, April 24, at 8 PM in the newly opened Enrico Caruso Room at Little Italy's legendary Grotta Azzurra Ristorante , located at 177 Mulberry Street on the corner of Broome Street. The performance will mark the second week of Tuesday Opera Nights at the new music venue which has been established to showcase established and emerging opera performers. Help Is On The Way Today, founded by 2012 MAC Award Winner Joseph macchia, is a 501c3 charitable organization dedicated to assisting children living with HIV/AIDS. The top five finalists in this year's "Jump the Line" dance video contest have been chosen by fan votes, and now through April 24 second round voting will take place. From the five finalists, the dancer with the most public votes will be named the winner of the 2012 "Jump the Line" contest and invited to be part of the first group to audition for the world-famous Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall in May 2012.From March 6 through March 26, through Facebook, Rockettes hopefuls submitted videos showcasing their dance technique and style. The contest judges, including a Rockettes choreographer, reviewed the video submissions and selected the top ten finalists. The top ten finalists were announced on Facebook and fans voted for their favorite video to narrow the ten finalist dancers down to five. Voting begins now through April 24 for the public to pick a "Jump the Line" winner, announced on April 25. The winner will receive roundtrip airfare to New York and two nights hotel accommodations in addition to the opportunity to "Jump the Line." (more...)

Spanish conductor Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgos returns to the New York Philharmonic to conduct music from two secular cantatas: selections from Falla's Atlantida, and Orff's complete Carmina burana - which the Orchestra has not performed since 1995 - Thursday, May 31, 2012, at 7:30 p.m., Friday, June 1, at 8:00 p.m., and Saturday, June 2, at 8:00 p.m. The international cast that Mr. Fru?hbeck has assembled for these performances features American soprano Erin Morley, American tenor Nicholas Phan (in his Philharmonic debut), South African baritone Jacques Imbrailo (debut), the Spanish chorus Orpheo?n Pamplone?s, Igor Ijurra Ferna?ndez, director (debut), and the Brooklyn Youth Chorus, Dianne Berkun, director. From stolen pearls to a glove left at the scene of the crime, from an excess of red lipstick to the postmodern gangster silhouette, fashion and style are commonly utilized in film to glamorize and glorify criminal behavior. These images and more will be the focus of the third New York edition of the London-based Fashion in Film Festival to take place at Museum of the Moving Image from May 4 through 13, 2012. Titled If Looks Could Kill, the Festival explores the compelling links between cinema, television, fashion, crime, and violence. (more...)

There will be a contra dance for experienced dancers from 4:00pm to 6:00pm; a brown bag dinner from 6:00pm to 7:45pm; a beginner's workshop from 7:30pm to 8:00pm; and an evening contra dance for all from 8:00pm to 11:00pm. Following the huge success of last year's production of Kismet, director Paul Lincoln and the LaGuardia High School Opera Workshop tackle this completely original work, written and composed by Tony Award nominees Laurence O'Keefe (Legally Blonde, Bat Boy) and Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde, Pirates!). Music Director Alan Gilbert, The Yoko Nagae Ceschina Chair, will lead the New York Philharmonic in Mahler's Symphony No. 9 at the Annual Free Memorial Day Concert, Monday, May 28, 2012 at 8:00 p.m. at The Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine. This will be the 21st Annual Free Memorial Day Concert offered by the New York Philharmonic, a tradition begun in 1992 as a gift to the people of New York City.
