Steven Hauck has replaced Jonathan Lincoln Fried as Wilhelm Canaris in the Affinity Company Theater and 3-Legged Dog world premiere production of Sheila Schwartz's 'SPY GARBO,' directed by Kevin Cunningham. This Off Broadway engagement will be performed at 3LD Art & Technology Center, 80 Greenwich Street (just south of Rector). The dates remain the same (as previously announced) with previews beginning on Tuesday, March 1, and the official Opening Performance on Sunday, March 6 at 3:00 p.m. (more...)

American Opera Projects (AOP) will present concert performances of scenes from two operas-in-development - Henry's Wife, by composer Randall Eng (pictured) and librettist Alexis Bernier, and Eichmann in Jerusalem, by composer Mohammed Fairouz and librettist David Shapiro. Henry's Wife will be presented at Manhattan School of Music's Greenfield Hall (120 Claremont Ave. @122nd St.) on Sunday, March 13 at 2:30pm, continuing a five-year relationship between AOP and Manhattan School of Music. Henry's Wife and scenes from Eichmann in Jerusalem will be presented on Sunday, March 20 at 7:00pm at South Oxford Space: 138 South Oxford Street in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Each semi-staged performance will feature a panel discussion and Q&A with the creators. Tickets are $20; $15 advance; $10 students & seniors, at www.operaprojects.org. (more...)

The Village Voice, the nation's first and largest alternative weekly newspaper, announced the judges for the 56th Annual Village Voice Obie Awards. The Voice's chief theater critic, Michael Feingold, will again chair the Obie Awards committee. Joining him will be Voice critic Alexis Soloski and four guest judges: Critic Hilton Als of The New Yorker; playwright David Henry Hwang, a three-time Obie Award winner for his plays F.O.B., Golden Child, and Yellow Face; director Evan Yionoulis, an Obie award winner for her production of Richard Greenberg's Three Days of Rain; and critic Andy Propst, of TheaterMania AmericanTheaterWeb.com (and also a frequent Voice contributor), who will again serve as secretary to the committee.
