On Monday, January 31, The Nightlife Awards were hosted by Bruce Vilanch. The evening has no acceptance speeches -- it's just pure entertainment provided by the winners and special guest stars. The show has been hailed by The New York Times as 'The equivalent of The Tony Awards for New York Nightlife.' As always, the vast majority of the winners, chosen by the press, agreed to come to Town Hall and perform. (more...)

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has launched an interactive Oscar-themed sidewalk display at 1333 Broadway in New York City. The expansive window display in midtown Manhattan features nine linked 46-inch LCD screens that literally envelop passers-by in a virtual 'red carpet experience.' As people walk past the eight-foot high wall of LCD screens, specially designed sensors react to their motion, triggering a flurry of virtual flashing paparazzi cameras and spotlights. Completing their sidewalk 'celebrity experience,' pedestrians will receive an on-screen invitation to tune in and watch the 83rd Academy Awards presentation on ABC Sunday, February 27. (more...)

Dance New Amsterdam (DNA) announces three collaborative creations piloted by fearless women, Ximena Garnica, Jennifer Nugent and Adrienne Westwood, in the Winter 2011 installment of OBject.obJECT, February 17-20. Through self-reflection, Garnica's interdisciplinary work investigates identity and the continuous state of 'Becoming'; a vigorous duet integrates partnering, awkwardness, tension and vulnerability in Nugent's I'd Go Out With You; Westwood's nostalgic world premiere, Record, incorporates varied forms of multi-media including miniature objects with a live projected video feed and an engineered traveling sound score. A post-performance talkback moderated by choreographer/dance film presenter Michael Bodel will take place on Thursday, February 17. (more...)
