John Dagleish, Olivier winner for SUNNY AFTERNOON, is headed back to the West End. The Daily Mail reports that he will take on the role of conman 'Autolycus' in Kenneth Branagh's THE WINTER'S TALE. Branagh and Rob Ashford will co-direct the Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company's first show of the year, which is slated to run October 17, 2015, through January 16, 2016.

The Hawaii Shakespeare Festival (HSF) celebrates its fourteenth season at The ARTS at Marks Garage in the center of the vibrant downtown arts district. The 15th anniversary season of The Classical Theatre of Harlem (CTH) (Ty Jones, Producing Artistic Director; David Roberts, Managing Director) continues with CTH's free, summer, uptown production of William Shakespeare's The Tempest, presented in partnership with City Parks Foundation's SummerStage festival. The Carl Cofield-directed production, which stars New York theater and Broadway veteran Ron Cephas Jones, will transform the Richard Rodgers Amphitheater in Marcus Garvey Park into an enchanted Caribbean island where the magic takes flight, with an elaborate aerial design elements planned. The third annual CTH Under the Stars presentation holds previews tonight, July 3, and Saturday, July 4. Performances, which are free and open to the public, run from July 5 through 26.

The brilliantly creative mind of Michael Keith Allen has worked wonders with a new re-telling of Shakespeare's MACBETH at the Art of Acting Studio by setting the tragedy in a postmodern Scotland where street thugs battle for leadership as well as territory, while cutting the run time to 90 minutes and allowing the actors to speak without heavy accents, making it easy to understand the dialogue and follow the plot and character development. It is definitely the best rendition of the classic I have ever seen.

William Shakespeare's classic THE TEMPEST, part of Classical Theatre of Harlem (CTH)'s 15th anniversary season, will open this Sunday, July 5.

The celebrated Brooklyn theatre company, Smith Street Stage, will return to Carroll Park to present its annual outdoor production of a play by William Shakespeare. This summer's production will be Henry IV, Part One and Part Two, playing from tonight, June 30 through July 19.

The best thing about living in Minnesota is: a) theater, and b) lakes. Combine those two, and you have about as perfect of a Minnesota experience as you can have. Classical Actors Ensemble is presenting Shakespeare's comedy TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA at Lake of the Isles (and other select locations) this summer. I saw the matinee yesterday, and it was a lovely way to spend a picture perfect Minnesota summer afternoon. The show is utterly charming, and something about doing it outdoors in a public space makes Shakespeare seem more immediate, natural, and real, like this is a story that's happening in our world here and now. I sometimes have a hard time getting into Shakespeare, but this company makes it extremely accessible and so easy to become engaged in the stories, characters, and Shakespeare's beautiful words, which sound modern and fresh in this context. Their mission is: 'Classical Actors Ensemble is dedicated to engaging audiences by capturing the spirit in which plays of the English Renaissance were originally performed - with immediacy, passion, and as popular entertainment.' Mission accomplished.
