Half medieval, half community TV talent quest, this new interpretation of THE CANTERBURY TALES is a bold and exciting take on Geoffrey Chaucer's comedic masterpiece and will premiere at the NEW THEATRE, Newtown from Wednesday 15 July to Saturday 1 August.

Developed by an exciting young team of theatre makers, this show features a cast of community performers and personalities from across Sydney. It will be a rollicking, surreal and thought provoking night of entertainment.

THE CANTERBURY TALES is the first piece of literature written in English. This classic placed the common people of Medieval England centre stage. Young and old, rich and poor, powerful and meek, these pilgrims on the road to Canterbury decide to entertain each other with a competition: Whoever tells the most amusing and instructive tale wins a free meal at the pub.

This new production takes the ideas at the heart of Chaucer's work and resets them in a modern Australian context. The TV talent quest will feature a wildly entertaining grab bag of talents from yo-yo champions to tap dancers. But as what is real and what is fiction begins to blur, this production will ask the same questions Chaucer asked 600 years ago: What are our stories? Where are we heading? What do we stand for?

"This will be a dazzling variety night. Our mission is to revitalize this incredible classic and to put it on the stage to entertain and enliven our audience!" Constantine Costi (co-creator)
