Multi-award winning Broadway composer/lyricist Adam Guettel is set to make his debut appearance in Australia this June, for a series of public performances and master classes. The grandson of Richard Rodgers, one of the greatest music theatre composers of all time (South Pacific, Carousel, Oklahoma and many more), Guettel has been likened by The New York Times, to a contemporary Stephen Sondheim.

Guettel's many accolades include 2 Tony Awards, 5 Drama Desk Awards and a Grammy nomination. The composer of acclaimed musicals including Myths and Hymns,Floyd Collins and The Light In The Piazza, for which he won Tony Awards for Best Score and Best Orchestrations, his works have been recorded by notable artists including Kristen Chenoweth, Audra McDonald, Mandy Patinkin, Brian d'Arcy James and Matthew Morrison.

In 2007 Guettel, struck by inspiration, disappeared into his studio to emerge with five new shows: a fairy tale adventure, the tale of an invisible man, a love story, a parable about the desire to be good and, most controversially, an opera for the devil. Under the musical direction of long-time collaborator Kim Grigsby and with stunning vocalist Haley Bond by his side, Australian ticket holders will be among the first to experience selections from these new shows, as well as enjoying highlights from his critically acclaimed musicals.

An extraordinary contemporary musical theatre talent, Guettel will perform a series of concerts, as well as teach public master classes on song and lyric interpretation at the prestigious Adelaide Cabaret Festival, at The Melbourne Cabaret Festival and in Sydney throughout June.
