Our students, patrons and faculty have one thing in common - a passion for the arts! Our faculty represent professional theatre and cinema artists who offer a variety of experiences that provide our students with tools and training that will help prepare them for further studies in graduate school or to enter the entertainment industry. Whether onstage or backstage, students receive opportunities to not only participate in our productions but to take on leadership roles as designers and directors once completing the appropriate courses. Opportunities exist to further your exposure to theatre whether you’re a major, minor, or simply have an ongoing interest in theatre. We invite you to explore our classes, production opportunities, guest artist programs, scholarships and stimulating and thought-provoking season productions. Everyone can play a part in the powerful, insightful world of theatre and cinema—even if only from the perspective of becoming an informed audience member. Join us to find your role and passion for the performing arts.

The Second City's SHE THE PEOPLE is Back by Popular Demand

The Second City's knockout show She the People is back at it again in 2020! The all-female, all-funny show directed by Carly Heffernan welcomes back returning ensemble members Carisa Barreca, Alex Bellisle, Katie Caussin, Sayjal Joshi, and Emma Pope with new cast member Lachrisa Grandberry joining. Other creative team members include Mary Mahoney (Music Director/Original Music/Sound Designer) and Abby Beggs (Lighting Designer/Stage Manager).

Blumenthal Performing Arts Will Welcome New Board of Trustees

Blumenthal Performing Arts has announced the appointment of nine new members to its Board of Trustees. Tom Eiselt, Jen Henry, Jaime Monday, Richard Nichols, Rasu B. Shrestha MD, MBA, Evan Turtz, Tariq Bokhari, Reneé Johnson and new Trustee apprentice Krystal Harrell were confirmed to the board January 28, during Blumenthal's Annual Meeting at Booth Playhouse.

The Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film in the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts has announced a new faculty member in performance. According to School Director, Christina Kirk, 'We are thrilled that Rafael Untalan has accepted the position as Assistant Professor of Practice in performance in the Johnny Carson School.' Untalan will begin teaching in the Fall 2020 semester.

Bluegrass Hip Hop Group Gangstagrass Share New Live Album and New Tour

Gangstagrass has been cooking up the heat to stun their fans once again by releasing their 5th album and first live recording, “Pocket Full of Fire” on February 15th.  The response thus far has been incredible including Billboard's Bluegrass Albums Chart Debut at #8. They used the International Folk Alliance Conference as the vehicle to create momentum and buzz whilst performing the moment it was available on all streaming devices.   They walked away from the conference as one of the most talked about artists taking home endorsement deals, and booking agencies for territories outside of the U.S as well as grabbing the cover story for Cashbox Canada.

The Second City announces the extension of The Second City's She the People: Girlfriends' Guide to Sisters Doing It for Themselves, a show the Chicago Tribune calls "empowering entertainment" and the Sun-Times raves is "one of the funniest revues Second City has produced in the past 20 years." A sketch show created, designed and performed entirely by the women of Second City, She the People features the talents of Carisa Barreca, Alex Bellisle, Katie Caussin and Kimberly Michelle Vaughn in addition to newcomers Emma Pope and Kaye Winks. Under the direction of Carly Heffernan with musical direction by Mary Mahoney, She the People now plays through May 27, 2018 in The Second City's UP Comedy Club. Spivey's RODGERSANDHART Plays Radford University
