Pasadena Playhouse, the State Theater of California, in association with East West Players, presents the Los Angeles premiere of Lauren Yee's The Great Leap. Urgent, sharp-witted and fast-paced, The Great Leap is an unforgettable night of theater. As two men from different cultures reunite and find themselves at a crossroads - one man struggling to keep his career alive and an old friend flourishing in a career he never wanted - a young Chinese-American gets lost in the Tiananmen Square Protest and finds himself at the accidental center of international attention. All three men must face their past and struggle to find their own personal victories in this compelling drama directed by Tony Award winner BD Wong.

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts presents the semi-staged Broadway Center Stage concert production of CHESS, the epic rock opera about love and political intrigue set against the backdrop of the Cold War as two superpowers attempt to manipulate an international chess championship for political ends.

TheatreWorks Silicon Valley continues its 2016/2017 season with a musical saga of immigrant America, Rags. From the creators of Fiddler on the Roof and Wicked, this exhilarating musical follows the journey of Jewish immigrants Rebecca and her son David, who find themselves navigating the teeming, turn-of-the-century tenements of New York. A soaring, tuneful score (music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Stephen Schwartz) illuminates this sweeping saga (book by Joseph Stein) of dreams and disillusions, love lost and inspiration found, and the heart and soul of the American character. It was declared "A winner, warm and witty. You are tempted to rise cheering," by The Mercury News. Rags will be directed by TheatreWorks Founding Artistic Director Robert Kelley, who notes "this production could not be timelier. As America debates immigration policies, what better time to present this deeper look at the newcomer's experience." On April 4, 2016, Virginia's Tony Award®-winning Signature Theatre honored the Broadway librettist John Weidman(Assassins, Pacific Overtures, Road Show) with the company's seventh Stephen Sondheim Award. The award, established in 2009 in honor of America's most influential musical theater writer and composer, was presented at a black-tie Gala Benefit at the Embassy of Italy. The Sondheim Award Gala benefited Signature Theatre's artistic, education, and community programs. Check out photos below!

From December 1986 to September 1988, Jason Alexander, the actor best known for his role as George Costanza for nine seasons on the television series Seinfeld, played older brother Stanley in the original Gene Saks production of BROADWAY BOUND on Broadway. It's a play that he loves dearly, calling it Neil Simon's strongest dramedy, and he has directed the marvelous production on the intimate Odyssey stage through September 21, effectively seating the audience in the living room of the Jerome home.

The Public Theater presents the New York premiere of Tony Kushner's THE INTELLIGENT HOMOSEXUAL'S GUIDE TO CAPITALISM AND SOCIALISM WITH A KEY TO THE SCRIPTURES. Michael Greif, who directed the world premiere at the Guthrie in April 2009, will direct the New York premiere. Rehearsals begin Monday, February 7 in New York. Playwrights Horizons (Tim Sanford, Artistic Director; Leslie Marcus, Managing Director) continues its 2008/2009 Season with the New York premiere of THE SAVANNAH DISPUTATION, a new play by Evan Smith (Psych and The Uneasy Chair at Playwrights Horizons, Remedial English for the Young Playwrights Festival at Playwrights Horizons, Servicemen at The New Group). This will be Mr. Smith's fourth collaboration with the theater company. Directed by Tony Award winner Walter Bobbie (Chicago, New Jerusalem), in his Playwrights Horizons debut, the production will began previews on Friday, February 6, 2009 with an Opening Night set for Tuesday, March 3 at 7PM. The limited engagement will run through Sunday, March 15 at Playwrights Horizons' Mainstage Theater (416 West 42nd Street).

On Wednesday June 11, 2008 the Theatre World Awards for Outstanding Broadway or Off-Broadway Debut performances during the 2007-2008 theatrical season took place. The awards were presented by former Theatre World Award winners, including: Alec Baldwin (Loot, 1986), Griffin Dunne (Search and Destroy, 1992), Alexander Gemignani (Assassins, 2004), Andrea Martin (My Favorite Year, 1993), Lin-Manuel Miranda (In the Heights, 2007), Rosie Perez (References to Salvador Dali Make Me Hot, 2001), and B.D. Wong (M. Butterfly, 1988). There were also be performances by former Theatre World Award winners, including: Karen Akers (Nine, 1982), Cheyenne Jackson (All Shook Up, 2005), Carol Lawrence (West Side Story, 1958) and Alice Playten (Henry, Sweet Henry, 1968).
