For their next production in the 51st annual summer season of quality live theatre in Central New York, Cortland Repertory Theatre presents a revival of the highest attended comedy in their history, Unnecessary Farce by Paul Slade Smith. Check out all new photos from the production here!
Birdland presented a musical evening with Victoria Shaw, Jim Brickman and Peter Cincotti, who played “musical chairs,” performing their hits and telling the stories behind them.
Last night, eight-time Grammy Award winner and 2009 Tony® Award nominee Dolly Parton, attended a performance of Newsies, the Tony® Award winning new American musical, and visited with the cast backstage afterwards. Parton attended with the show's director, Jeff Calhoun. Calhoun first worked with Parton when he was cast as a dancer in the 1982 film version of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, and recently directed both the US and UK tours of her Broadway musical 9 to 5.

The Marriott Theatre continues its highly acclaimed 2009 season with Hairspray, the show the New York Post calls "A great big fat gorgeous hit!" This all-new production of the Tony Award-winning international phenomenon explodes onto the Marriott Theatre stage September 23rd. Direct from Broadway, where it played for over 2,500 performances, the production begins previews September 23rd, opens Wednesday, September 30th at 8 p.m., and runs through December 6th, 2009. Chicagoland favorite and multiple Jeff Award winner Marc Robin (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Full Monty), has been tapped to direct and choreograph.
Barrel of Monkeys (BOM) announces their eighth annual Celebration of Authors event on Tuesday, June 9, 2009, 7-10 p.m., at the Athenaeum, 2936 N. Southport Ave., Chicago IL 60657. This special end-of-the-school-year celebration honoring BOM's student authors and their families includes about 75 minutes of youth-generated scenes (list available on request a week before the event), followed by a post-show party with refreshments. Audience members have the rare opportunity to meet the authors, the teachers and principals from the schools BOM members have worked with in this school year.
The cast and creative team of the hit Broadway musical HAIR, including Tony Award nominee director Diane Paulus joined friends and fans for the release party launch of the Ghostlight Records New Broadway Cast Recording of HAIR. The celebration took place onTuesday, May 26, 2009 at Bumble and bumble which is located at 415 West 13th Street (between 9th Ave and Washington St.). BroadwayWorld's cameras were there for the festive 'love-in' with the cast.
South Ark Stage (Rhoda Herrick, Producing Artistic Director) presents the Off-Broadway revival of the comedy Sophistry by Jonathan Marc Sherman (Things We Want). Under the direction of James Warwick, the eight-member cast features Michael Carbonaro as Jack, and Jonathan Hogan as Whitey, with Ian Alda, Ellen Dolan, Charlie Hewson, Mahira Kakkar, Natalie Knepp and Maximilian Osinski. Performances began Wednesday, April 22 , 2009 for a limited run through Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Samuel Beckett Theatre / Theater Row (410 West 42nd Street between 9th & 10th Avenues). Opening night is Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at 7:00 p.m.
South Coast Repertory will open its 2009-2010 season with a celebration of the music of Broadway legend Stephen Sondheim and will shine the spotlight later in the season on the up-and-coming musical theater composer and lyricist, Adam Gwon. The season lineup includes World Premieres by Bathsheba Doran, Julie Marie Myatt and Howard Korder, and a West Coast Premiere by Noah Haidle.
