Asolo Repertory Theatre Presents Touring Production of THE TRAGEDY OF HAMLET

Asolo Repertory Theatre proudly presents an FSU/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training touring production of THE TRAGEDY OF HAMLET. This brand new production, which will be presented during the 400th anniversary year of Shakespeare's death, is adapted and directed by Justin Lucero, director of the FSU/Asolo Conservatory's hit 2015 production of The Liar. This seventh annual educational touring production, THE TRAGEDY OF HAMLET, will tour schools and community venues throughout Sarasota and the state of Florida, from Tallahassee to Miami, from September 27 through November 22, 2016. There will be a special performance for educators, press, and the public on Today, September 30 at 6pm in the Cook Theatre, located in the FSU Center for the Performing Arts.  (more...)

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey Presents Shakespeare's Most Notorious King

A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity will be available through the month of October when The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, in partnership with Drew University, presents a "double-bill" experience for students and adults. From October 6th - 30th, a single copy of the original First Folio, one of the world's most valuable, rare and influential books will be on public display at Drew University's Mead Hall. The renowned Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington D.C. launched an historic tour of the book in early 2016 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death. (more...)

Golden Globe nominee and Tony Award winner Liev Schreiber will be honored at the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene [NYTF] Golden Gala at the Museum of Jewish Heritage on Monday, December 12th, 7pm. Every marriage is a story all it's own. But there are some things that each marriage will face, like health issues. This one-hour show by renowned storytellers and married couple, Brad Lawrence and Cyndi Freeman, take on the stress and challenges that come with the In Sickness and In Health part of the vows. Through moments where Cyndi can't get off the couch and Brad can't get off the ground, each must come to terms with the frailties of thier own bodies and also with those of their partner's as they face unknown illnesses, misdiagnosis, snarky medical professionals, and an endless number of worst case scenarios. In the end, they must come to terms with what it means to commit to love in the face of the kind of uncertainties we spend our lives trying to pretend aren't there. (more...)

Crowded Fire's Artistic Director Mina Morita unveiled the 2017 mainstage season lineup including two contemporary plays that continue to uphold the company's long tradition of producing boundary - pushing, thought-provoking theater. At a season-announcement party on Saturday, November 19th Morita addressed Crowded Fire donors, patrons, and artists saying "We are a divided country in the midst of a divisive time. It is more important now, more than ever to use our creative and critical thought to mine our cultural memory and to interrogate our existence. Bryna Wasserman officially stepped down as executive director of The National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene (NYTF) last night at a lavish gala concert and dinner honoring Golden Globe nominee and Tony winner Liev Schreiber.  The 'Golden Gala' at the Museum of Jewish Heritage featured a concert starring a line-up of young performers with dazzling voices, including three stars of the Drama Desk-nominated musical, 'The Golden Bride,' Rachel Policar, Cameron Johnson and Adam B. Shapiro. They were joined by two superlative young singers, Grace Field and Daniel Greenwood.  Folksbiene's artistic director Zalmen Mlotek led a 16-piece orchestra. (more...)
